Rick is the vagabond boyfriend. This past year, Rick spent 1/2 his time working on glaciers (Alaska & Antarctica) and 1/2 his time traveling between climbing/skiing hotspots on the west coast and wherever I was on the east coast.
George is the fat tabby I adopted as a kitten to keep my geriatric german shepherd company. George and his brothers were named after kings by the neighbor who tended the litter. George has not an ounce of royalty in his blood. At 13.4 lbs. he thinks he should still be able to jump from a chair onto someone's shoulders (bad idea George!) and his favorite pass-time is paper licking. Both George and I became bored with each other when Riva-the-dog died, so I adopted Galan.
Galan the black cat is quite elegant and regal, but also a wirey maniac. He likes to do things like slide into partially open drawers, squeeze behind the back of the drawer, then triumphantly emerge Houdini-style. His original owners returned him to the cat rescue person because he was just too crazy and demanding. He's a cat that really needed other cats --a total play addict!
Seneca, the sweet little tabby, is the third and most recent adoptee. Rick and I brought her back from a campground in Seneca Rocks, West Virginia. We were told by locals that she was a stray, but she's taken so well to human affection and to house life that we secretly wonder if we didn't steal someone's beloved pet.
