Our class learned about proverbs - what they are and what they mean.  Then we brainstormed some familiar ones and discussed their meanings.  Here are some of the well known proverbs we humorously finished:
  • A penny saved is one cent.
  • No news is nice.
  • Don't bite the hand you write with.
  • Better to be safe than to be kicked by a first grader.
  • You can't teach an old dog manners.
  • It's always darkest before you get up.
  • The pen is mightier than the pencil.
  • You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it take a bath.
  • Don't bite the hand you suck on.
  • Better to be safe than to kiss my dog.
  • You can't teach an old dog to chase my sister.
  • You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it dive.
  • A penny saved is a dollar later.
  • You can't teach an old dog to eat politely.
  • Don't bite the hand that pets you.
  • A penny saved is worthless later.
  • Strike while the ball is coming.
  • A penny saved is one cent closer to buying a trampoline.
  • It's always darkest before you go to bed.
  • Don't bite the hand that gets dirty.
  • No news is too good to be true.
  • Don't bite the hand that has the chocolate in it.
  • It's always darkest before bedtime.
  • Strike while the sword is sharp.
