My best friend just showed me how to use her Web Tv and I decided to go surfing for Stryper just to see if there was anything! I get so mad when all the magazines these days act like Jars of Clay, P.O.D., D.C. Talk, etc., are the first Christian rock bands in the world! In the eighties I went to a church called Sanctuary which was started by an ex-Stryper roadie and we supported all kinds of bands, like Barren Cross, Vengeance, Deliverance, Neon Cross, Bloodgood, etc. Anyway, listening to Stryper is one of the things that eventually led to me receiving Christ back in 1986 and I will never forget them or when I met them in 1988. Michael had the most beautiful voice in a metal singer I've ever heard and I told him so. Anyhow, sorry this is so long. God bless you! |

The band that actually opened the flood gates for Christian hard rock as we know it today. Like them or not, they helped propell Christian music to excellence in the hard rock genre. Bands like P.O.D. to Living Sacrifice have Stryper to thank for their pioneering of the hard Christian rock. But not to be forgotten bands like the Resurrection band, Petra were all fine and good but they did not trailblaze the way that Stryper did. Thanks you guys. I also am a drummer, and Robert was and still is a great influence. He's got a unique style about him that's hard to copy. White Lion opened up for them, and that was the "greatest show on earth." The two bands played a lot of gags on each other, which really showed they're down to earth side. The whole band was great to talk to. Thank you Tim Gaines for taking the picture of Robert and I together. It's something I'll always treasure, what a great memory. Stryper, you have got to tour again!!! |

Even their name..which they tell us is drawn from Isaiah 53:5...not true. in an old interview with Robert Sweet he admitted to the fact that they decided to name the band Stryper and put yellow and black stripes all over their gear first.. they stumbled upon the verse later and made it fit. it was a gimic. good hair rock for their time..but it was a gimic. they used God. they raped God. they wanted to make money off of innocent, naive youth group kids..and it worked!! |

This band made a huge positive impact on my life like No other band did. At the time I was in jr.high when I first saw the "free" video. I was hooked. I would read every Stryper article and interview I could get my hand on. Besides, the lyrics in the albums, what blew me away is what I read about them in magazines. It was their lifestyle and attitude. First I'd be reading an interview with some hard drinking, "party's and women", decidant band like, Motley Crue. Then I would read an interview with Stryper, and I was totally amazed! For the first time in my life, I found a new set of "Rock heros", that were none of those things I just mentioned. I believe those were the seeds sown, to point me to where I am in Christ today! By the way, if you're into hard and heanvy righteous music, then come visit my site! |
