One of my knitting passions is Arans. I am List Mom for the Aranknit List. Please join us! You can subscribe at the eGroups site.
The Aranknit list has done two group projects. In the Spring of 1999 we started a group Aran project called Son of Aran. It was inspired by the original Anyknitters Revolving Aran Network (A.R.A.N.) led by Claudia Krisniski on the big KnitList. Both the A.R.A.N. instructions and Son of Aran instructions can be found at one of the Top Ten Most Boring Websites* hosted by my good friend and fellow knitter, Esther Bozak. Visit Esther's highly informative site. If you'd like to do some shopping, Claudia Krisniski owns Countrywool in New York's Hudson Valley. I have no affiliation other than being a VERY satisfied customer!
* As determined by the British web design company Altodigital. Obviously they are misinformed.
Here is a picture of my finished Son of Aran sweater. The yarn is Brown Sheep's NatureSpun Worsted in a now-discontinued color called "Green Lantern."
The other Aranknit list project is currently underway (Spring 2000). One of our members, Valerie Musselman, was inspired to begin an Aran afghan knit in squares. She initiated the project with the Shamrock Square in honor of St. Patrick's Day. Other list members will contribute new squares, one each month. Visit the web page for the Aranknit Afghan.
