This
page shows and tells all of the things I have managed
to
do to my SS since I wrecked it (THE FIRST
TIME)!
I
bolted on a new front nose that I ordered from Chevy!
I
am kinda disappointed because it's shaped kinda rugged.
But
It works. I also found a pair of very decent front
fenders
at a local junk yard. For now they are blue and the
nose
is black! I must say the new front clip does add a bit
of
character! At least its not all mangled! I found out that
the
car had been wrecked before and the frame was tweaked!
The
drivers side front fender wasn't even a real SS fender!
And
the passenger side fender was full of bondo! The front
nose
wasn't even stock! The faded paint revealed black
underneath.
Original Gm plastic parts were yellow under the paint!
I
have to do some of my personal renovative customization to
the
metal bumper to make the parking,(cruise),(turn signal) lights
fit
right! But hey, what are project cars for? I almost got a
rear
spoiler off of E-bay but UPS broke it! So I still need to
find
one! Well, the original 2004R tranny finally gave up at
170,000
miles! It made its mark in my book of tough trannys!
Oh,
and the original 305 H.O. that we put in my dads van is still
holding
its own! It has a little over 200,000 miles on it!
I
guess I got one of the good ones! :) I bought another 200R4
tranny
that supposedly had about 500 miles on it for $100.00.
I
put it in and then found out that the rear end was broke!
I
took the cover off and half of the pinion teeth were broke off!
One
piece was like an inch and a half in diameter! So I put in a
rear
end out of a friends 82 Malibu and it worked ok, but its
no
3:73 limited slip! I still have to figure out the stall converter
shit
with the edelbrock carb! Anyway, I drove it for a few weeks
with
pride again! And then one night I was cruising down a road
with
some curves and there was an abrupt.....unmarked dead end!
I
hit a telephone pole and broke it in three pieces! I hit the brakes
so
hard that vacume killed the engine and then I had no power
steering
and no time to miss the pole! So I hit it straight on! Good
thing
that I didn't have the metal bumber in place yet! Those rubber
noses
just stretch! The front of the fenders were just kinda
stretched
in a bit! I am sure I can just reposition them. The nose
popped
back into place when I took it off! It only has a few scratches
on
it! The hood was just MANGLED! The front suspension stabalizer
bar
was bent way in and the front bezel where everything mounts will
have
to be replaced. The windsheild was cracked pretty bad and the
dash
was craked a bit! The motor was pushed back enough to crimp the
tranny
tube with the valve cover against the firewall! The water pump
pully
was pushed to the back of the water pump! And I had to pry the
fan
and the radiator apart to get them out!(Dammit...that was my good
crome
flex fan too)! But I think I lucked out with just a little damage!
As
soon as the cops and the electric crew cut the power...I drove the
car
out of the ditch and parked it in a lady's yard! I ended up getting
the
careless driving ticket dropped because I took pictures and it
was
the city's fault for not having a posted dead end sign.
I
was going just barely over the speed limit....believe it or not!
I
even have a little battle scar on my nose for reminder!
But....SHIT
HAPPENS!
Anyway....the
car is parked and will stay there till it is totally
safe
and ready to drive again! I have had a new ambition.
My
78 is my new project and gets the most attention lately!

I
wanted to put my Turbo Hydromatic 350 in it anyway!
All
I have to do is find a V-8 Monte Carlo cross member and
re-route
the exhaust. I had to do some of my handy customization
to
the 350 tranny. I had to grind the head of a 3/8 bolt down and
JB
weld it in the hole where the detent cable bolt used to go! When
aluminum
strips it is a pain in the ass! I did a perfect job on it and it
looks
like it actually should have been that way to begin with! I love
to
create ways for things to work! I did get to replace the passenger
side
header when I put the crap tranny in! And I will have to change the
other
header to change the tranny again! So at least I got around to
bolting
on the new headers! I've been putting it off for quite a while!
I
also finally had to replace the u-joints in the drive line with Spicer
U-Joints
since I had the drive line out anyway! I have a feeling that the
limited
slip rear-end isn't gonna hold out too much longer. After all it
is
at 170,000+miles! So I need to plan for that I guess!
That's
gonna be a pain in the ass!
