Thanks for your letter Derek,
I appreciate the lack of "hate" in your mail. If you have actually read "My Case Against Christianity" then you already know of our opinions and arguments against christianity and its bible.
We would be glad to exchange ideas with you about anything at all. After all, Derek, if we had never thought about the contents of the bible and the history of christianity we would still be good christians, since that is what we were programmed to be since we were old enough to understand human speech.
Just so you know who you're dealing with, here's some info about us:
we are atheists, however, we don't hate religionists of any faith, we simply think them to be foolish.
On the other hand, we don't like to see public property and funds used to promote religion.
We consider the religious person to be inferior to ourselves...in that they are mentally enslaved by their beliefs....as we once were. We take a purely scientific approach to the natural world. We respect knowledge and the development of civilization. Our view of homosexuality is that it is neither right or wrong, but unnatural because if all males of a species were homosexual, that species would become extinct (and wouldn't exist in the first place).....homosexuality is not a moral choice, but the result of a genetic defect, like any other birth defect or mutation. (the queers probably wouldn't like our ideas about their lifestyle, huh?).
Perhaps you can help us to furthur understand some things about your faith and we can help you understand more about the nature of science. I just finished emailing our website to dozens of christian "apologetics" sites.....they chose a fitting word to describe their task, because they really do have a lot of apologizing to do for the brutal and regressive acts of christianity against society.
One thing I noticed was the assertion that the atheist has no way of disproving the existance of god......I agree, but I also have no way to disprove the existence of Santa claus, or the Easter bunny, etc. The fact is, if you believe in something that there is no scientific evidence for....no proof of...scientifically, then you are taking a leap of faith indeed. The very nature of science is that a theory must be proven by facts, evidence. So the burden of proof is on the one who brings forth a new, unproven idea.
Are you sure that you wish to proceed? "Gods are fragile things; they may be killed by a whiff of science or a dose of common sense. "....Chapman Cohen. We have nothing to lose, but your faith is a delicate, thing. The only way one can preserve the ideas implanted during his childhood about god and the miracles of the bible is simply to shut your mind to reason...keep yourself very afraid to think about the ridiculous, impossible claims of the bible.
Sincerely, Greg H.
