AN IDEA WHOSE TIME HAS COME

Every now and then an idea we've long accepted as true or right or good or okay turns out to be false or wrong or no good or not okay.

Sometimes we discover that the long accepted idea was false or wrong or no good or not okay all along. For a long time humankind accepted the idea that the earth was the center of the universe. Then Nicolas Copernicus came along and demonstrated to us that the long accepted idea was just plain false and always had been.

Sometimes, too, we discover that an idea which was okay for a while isn't okay any longer because something has changed in the world. For a long time outhouses were accepted as an okay idea. But in many places they aren't an okay idea any longer.

The Money Idea is another idea that we've accepted for a long time as okay, but like outhouses it isn't okay any longer. This assertion may seem to you as outlandish as Copernicus' assertion seemed to many of his contemporaries. But no matter how outlandish it may seem, it is nonetheless true.

The essence of the Money Idea is the assertion that it is legitimate in human affairs to demand something in return/exchange for something we offer to another -- that it is legitimate to charge for the use of land or for the goods derived from the land, and for our labor.

There has always been lurking within that assertion an exploitative element. However, so long as there were in the world freely available resources "enough and as good", as John Locke expressed it, the exploitative element within the Money Idea did not necessarily produce unavoidable injurious privation -- one could move to unclaimed land.

But there is no longer "enough and as good' in the world freely accessible by all. This is one of the changes in the conditions of human association that, combined with other changes, makes it necessary to liberate ourselves from the thrall of the Money Idea.

Please take a few moments to visit our website and learn more about this world-improving idea.
