St.
Charles Church is an example of mid-19th century, renaissance
revival church architecture. " There are few comparable churches
in the state which surpass St. Charles in terms of size and opulence
of interior detailing. The church parish of St. Charles was
established in 1819.

St.
Charles College (founded in 1837) has a strong reference to English
late medieval architecture. This was a nation-wide fashion for
educational institutions at the turn of the century. Its park like
setting which gives it something of the character of an English great
country house.
