Ride to the Stop
Three Major Keys in a Successful Slide Stop
 |
Horse must be straight in approach to stop |
 |
Horse must build speed gradually |
 |
Rider must ride to the stop. Do not stop in your mind anytime
before the stop. Follow through with the forward momentum to the
stop. |
Being timed to the horse is a large factor to the stop. Rhythm
and timing are a must.
How to get timed to your horse?
1. Your horse must allow you to softly put both legs around
his rib cage, not squeezing-- but contact, and not building speed yet...
2. You must keep your shoulders back and your head up.
3. Now you gradually build speed (assuming you are straight)
slowly clucking with every other stride, then every stride.
Then in place of the next cluck you say "Whoa". Take your legs off
at the same time and then.............. check in next month for what to do
next!
