Last years event was a success! Hundreds of First Night celebrants walked the streets under a gentle snowfall, greeting each other and attending events. Several hundred people gathered at the finale in Central School Square. Party favors were passed out, balloons inflated. Dancers led by Helen Pilling rolled in to the beat of African drums and gave us a bit of hip swaying and arm shakin'. Hundreds of voices were raised in song when Jack Gladstone led us all in singing, "Yesterday" by the Beatles. Marshall Noice led the countdown to the New Year from 30 seconds and we all cheered and embraced. Don Alley's mountain dulcimer rang out as he led us through "Auld Lang Syne". Fireworks exploded in the skies all around. We wished each other "Happy New Year!" and the crowd slowly dispersed. |
