The Arrow Mailbag Shallow judgement makes for shallow candidates Its campaign season again. A time characterized by one liners in the hall, idealistic campaign promises and of course canidate speeches. Im sure there are many people who could serve the student body well, but only those who are willing to equate themselves with Dick and Jane, win the favor of God or Satan, roll in Jell-o, tell stupid jokes, or present nothing short of a song or a dance, have a chance. And why is this the case? Because students choose the candidates with the most extravagant campaign no matter how shallow the premise. Posters out weigh issues, candy beats posters and burping takes the cake. Some would argue that it doesnt matter anyway. "Student council doesnt do anything, so who cares whos president?" they ask. In that case, Im sure they wouldnt mind if the whole process was skipped, assembly and all. Ah, but thats a silly suggestion. If they did that, how would we ever make an informed decision? senior Sarah Bohlman
An ode to Andy Frey Andy Frey you are my salvation, you give me a reason to exist in this world of utter horror. Your words are like notes of music from the strings of Apollos lyre. You deserve more recognition than you get. The Rock says you are cool. Much respect is due to Andrupholis the Fly. You are the wind beneath the wings of many sports page followers, and beloved by all who read the paper. Without your pages the paper would be an empty black hole of nothingness. Praise be to the most influencial sports writer of the decade. junior Trusten Williamson |
