New Clubs at FHS Inspire Students

By Brittany Lucas

Watching re-runs of The Simpsons might be an extracurricular activity for some students, but junior James Clark and a couple of dozen other students have their sights set to a higher art form: cinema.

“The film club is good for kids that aren't that athletic, they can have something interesting to do after school instead of just sitting around watching TV,” said Clark.

“There's a possibility our films will make it to that level(Blair Witch Project)”, said Clark. “I guess anything is possible if you put your mind to it”.

The film club may stray from the majority of the clubs at FHS but it has had numerous members show up for the first meeting.

“The first meeting went pretty well but what really surprised me was all the people that showed up,” said Clark. “I had no idea that so many people would be interested in making movies.”

The film club may be a great starting tool for future movie creators, but the writing club might be a great choice for aspiring young authors from FHS who could finally get the chance to get their works published.

“The writing club has not been officially formed; they have to write up the platform first. The student's idea is to write interests in various writing subjects, and critique each other's writing by reading them aloud. The kids are setting goals to publish peoples work in the group by entering contests offered by the school and through the Internet. ,”said writting center adviser Kitty Stoner.

Both the film and writing club still need to be be approved by student council
