Seniors need to mind
their manners ARROW STAFF
Who are these jerks? Not everyone in the class, of course. But If you were one of the star students who yelled at the Jostens representative during the assembly on Wednesday, you are one of those jerks. If you shouted your opinion rudely to the yearbook staff as they discussed the new senior photo, then you are also one of those jerks. If you were not, thank you for being more mature than my three-year-old niece. Deeming classmates jerks is harsh, you may say. But harsh or not, it is accurate. While sitting in the auditorium listening to the Jostens representative, the disrespect for our speaker was staggering. And such understanding was given to Megan Brown and Terri Weyrauch when they informed everyone that there would be no signs in the senior picture this year. I promise, you will all live without having a picture of yourself in the yearbook with a big sign that says Got some, 4:20, or perhaps a profanity or two. The assembly wasn't the only disgrace. The senior picture wasn't what many yearbook staffers had hoped it would be. This is partly because of uncooperative seniors who felt that it was far too difficult to listen to the photographer, and that forming two large circles was just beyond their comprehension. Are these the best that 12 years of public education can offer? It is not shocking that people fear the dumbing of America. We at Flathead High School seem to be hosting some of our 574 seniors as examples. Not everyone at the assembly behaved like ingrates. Many were disgusted with the few, the proud (of their stupidity), the seniors ... who give our class a bad name. In every situation where a large number of individuals are involved, there are some who are bound to act out, and some who remain quiet. If you did not enjoy the uneducated comments at the assembly, then you should've spoken up. This is your senior year, and you don't have to take this kind of rudeness from people who don't understand that when someone is talking, it is polite to listen quietly. So next time you are in a situation when people are being rude, stand up and take charge. No one in our class deserves a bad reputation with the community, the administration, or anyone else simply because a few people had their manners buried somewhere. |
