Win boosts Bravettes' hopes for season

For awhile, the only good news for the Bravette basketball team was that there is a long season.

The varsity Bravette basketball team started off their AA schedule losing their first five games, two of which were overtime losses, before beating Missoula Hellgate at home Oct. 12, and sneaking by Great Falls High last Friday. Now the Bravettes record is 7-6 overall, and 2-5 in conference.

This year's team is similar to last year's, but presents a different style of play.

“This team has a lot of good athletes who can score lots of points,” said Coach Dennis Latimer. “They're more relaxed and offensive minded.”

Bravette players learned a lot from these early losses and searched for a way to win.

“In order to pull off a win we all have to pull together and execute together to achieve the same goal,” says Latimer. “We need everyone to have a solid game.”

The Bravettes did just that in their match-up against Hellgate.

“Everyone contributed, and it was a good team effort, however this is just the beginning of our conference wins,” said senior Mariah Tillo.

The whole team feels they are improving, and they hope to make a strong showing at state.

“Our goal is to host a play-off game, and to do that you have to finish in the top four in the conference,” said Latimer.
