Students at FHS have been dreaming of the minute the final bell rings today, signaling the beginning of Spring Break. Sunny locations and sleeping in are a few ways teenagers will spend this break, but not the Flathead Bravette Volleyball team. They will willingly give up their Spring Break to compete as a team for the state title in Billings.

Despite the sacrifice of some vacation time, the Bravettes are looking forward to the tournament.

"The team’s attitude is very positive," said senior Josey Walterskirchen. "We are all extremely excited and ready to go. We all feel that we should do pretty well at state."

After defeating the Big Sky Eagles on Feb. 26, 3 games to 1, the Bravettes were guaranteed the trip to state.

"We’re all anxious and ready to play," said senior Hanna Thies. "There’s a lot less pressure now, since we know we are for sure going."

Junior Marny Saunier added, "We’re ready to dominate."

The Bravettes will have to take this dominating attitude up against some of the best volleyball teams in the state, like Missoula Sentinel and Great Falls Russell.

"Our quick offense works really well," said Thies. "Teams never see it coming."

"We need to work a little on our mental game," said Saunier. "Physically we’re there, but we need to work on mentally shutting teams down. That will help us a lot at state."

Regardless of the outcome of the state tournament, the team is happy with its 1999/2000 season.

"The season’s been a blast," said Walterskirchen. "It’s a fun group of girls to play with. We’ve had to play though and compensate for some injuries, but we’ve been successful."

"One of the coolest things about this season has been all the support that the student body has shown to us," said Thies. "Thanks so much to everyone who is at our games. It has been awesome."

So as you bask in the sun on your tropical vacation, or simply wake up at 3 p.m. next Thursday, the Bravettes volleyball team will be hard at work trying to bring home a hard-earned state title.
