Volleyball off to a
smashing start By: Anna Saverud ARROW STAFF By blocking their opponents from victory and by setting themselves up for success, Flathead Bravette volleyball is starting the season strong. The season so far has its highs and its lows, but if we can keep up this momentum it will be awesome, said senior Heather Smith. If we keep it up, hopefully we will place in the state tournament. The momentum the girls are gaining has come from two wins and only one loss in conference play. The Bravettes opened conference play strong against Sentinel. The only loss dealt to the girls came from Helena Capitol. The Bravettes stood up again four days later, and defeated Missoula Hellgate. On Jan. 28, the Bravettes played at home and knocked off Great Falls in three games. The next night, Flathead traveled to Butte, and overcame a first-game setback to defeat the lady Bulldogs. We've been working really hard in practice, said junior Stephanie Lanfear. I think we have a really big shot at state, if we play like we know we can, and not the other team's game. State is a long way off for the girls, but they already have it in their sights. To land a victory, the Bravettes rely on their strengths and work hard to improve their weaknesses. We have a huge bond as a team and I think that is our biggest strength, said Lanfear. Everyone on the team adds something special and has an individual talent that we can use. Said Smith: We really need to be able to keep our attitudes up, and strategically, we need to cover our hitters better. Lanfear said, I think our biggest weakness is letting down when we're ahead. We need to finish when we are winning.
