Student center moves
forward
After months of
controversy, the FHS student center is daily becoming less of a dream and more of a
workable goal for both students and staff. Even those once ardently opposed to the project
now stand ready to make it a reality.
The questions we
were raising at the beginning of the year have been answered, said senior Grant
Hewitt. Now I can see it (the student center) really helping students.
At a meeting Jan. 18, a
group of administrators, faculty and students discussed the possibility of grant money and
the need for more students to become involved with the program.
A lot of the
opportunities we will have to get grants to fund the center will arise from the efforts of
students, said Deann Thomas, CARE director. Getting more of them involved
would go a long way toward strengthening the project.
FHS students are needed
not just to help get the center off the ground, but also to ensure that it becomes a
successful program in the future. Some worry that when the seniors move on, they will take
