Bravettes basketball season not what they hoped for

The final whistle has blown and now the FHS gym has a new set of feet on it. The Bravettes basketball team failed to advance to the state tournament when they lost a 48-52 matchup to Missoula Hellgate on Nov. 23.

“We had a tough season,” said junior Erika Wieferich. “Overall I honestly think that we just had too much talent and we didn't know what to do with it. Everybody had strengths, but we couldn't figure out how to put them together.”

“Our record wasn't good, but we still had a good team,” said junior Sarah Lenoch.

“I think we didn't do as well as we thought we were going to do,” said junior Stephanie Lanfear. “At the beginning of the season we did really well against the A schools.”

Now the Bravettes are looking forward to having a strong season next fall. The future looks bright with good players coming up from lower grades.

“There are a lot of really good sophomores this year and a few freshman that would be great to have on the team too,” said Lanfear.

“Next year we are going to be out for revenge,” said Lenoch.

To prepare for the next fall's season, the Bravettes are starting now.

“A lot of us weight lift and do plyometrics all year,” said Lanfear. “It's hard and gets boring, but it helps a lot.”

In addition to individual training, the Bravettes put together a traveling team, that goes to tournaments around the northwest, including Cheaney, Wash. In the summer the girls have their Flathead Camp and a summer league.

“The tournament in Cheaney is a lot of fun. We play good hard teams and learn more about the game in the process,” said Lenoch.
