“Men in Tights” gains a whole new meanng for the FHS guys who were asked to dance in the Northwest Ballet Co.’s “Nutcracker.” The group of guest artists get to play major roles in the annual production.
The cast of seven guest dancers includes seniors Cody Berg and Nick Frentsos, who are both dancing for the second time in the Nutcracker. Seniors Jason Curtis, Chris Jambor and Jason Moss and juniors Dan DiStefano and Jerry Clark will also be dancing.
“It’s a lot of fun,” said Frentsos. “You get to know different people you normally wouldn’t hang out with on the weekend.”
Along with meeting new people, the guys also get a taste of the ballet life and all that goes into dancing.
“I have a new respect for people in ballet,” said DiStefano. “It’s a lot of fun, but it’s also a lot of hard work.”
Clark has begun to experience the many stresses that come with dancing.
“I like the lifts,” said Clark. “But they are hard and the whole time I’m thinking, ‘I want to put her down.’”
With all the excitement that comes with performing, the guest dancers are also looking forward to the new experience.
“What I like the best is that I’m going to be doing something that I’ve never done before, which is good because you should always explore different things,” said Curtis. “I’m excited.”
Along with the excitement of performing in a production with experienced dancers, the guys also feel honored.
“I was happy I was asked to be in it,” said Clark. “I felt really honored.”
Despite their inexperience, the guys have impressed the ballerinas with their ability to quickly pick up the skills involved in dancing.
“They (the guys) have picked up on everything so fast,” said junior Cace Hardy. “It’s all coming together so much better this year.” |
