Vice-principal Peter Fusaro roaring into the gym on a motorcycle amid smoke and strobe lights. Boy’s soccer coach Tom McFarlane getting his head shaved.  Nine teachers dancing to “Enter Sandman,” “Welcome to the Jungle,” and “Wooly Bully.”

Another typical FHS pep assembly? Hardly.

“It was a great assembly,” said science teacher Todd Morstein, of the Nov. 12 event. “It was the first assembly I’ve seen with all the students participating.”

“It was unbelievable. We had a great time. It was the best assembly in the history of the high school because every student was rockin’!” said business teacher and lead guitarist Grady Bennett.

According to Bennett, activities director Randy Russell put together the act because he “wanted an assembly to get the whole school kickin’.”

“Seeing our coaches participating in an assembly was definitely uplifting,” said senior David Beekman. “We were definitely the most involved we have ever been.”

“My favorite part was the Arlo Guthrie part, when they went ‘I don’t want no dill pickle, I just wanna ride my motorsickle’,” said social studies teacher John Fuller.

Despite the rave reviews, there were some  students disappointed about the lack of recognition for the all-state musicians and state championship soccer team.

“I think there was too much importance placed on football, when in retrospect the all-state people worked just as hard, if not harder,” said senior Anne Bianchi.

However, junior Holly Andersen summed up the sentiments of many students, when she said:

“We should do it everyday.”
