Judge named Montana soccer player of the year
After two seasons of all-state selections and a state championship under his belt, Flathead senior forward Brandon Judge has been selected for the Montana Player of the Year award for 1998.
“It was weird,” said Judge. “I got a lot of media attention. I knew I had it, but to see it in the paper was a shock. Very unexpected.”
As the state’s top varsity player, Judge has also been nominated for one of eight regional awards and one national player of the year award. He has also been nominated for honorable mention All-American by several Montana coaches for his performance throughout the season.
Judge was instrumental in leading the Braves to their 1998 state championship. Tied with the Bozeman Hawks 2-2 in overtime, Judge scored the winning goal. “The tournament was different,” said Judge. “I had never played that well before. It was something I never felt before.”
Judge was Flathead’s 1998 leading scorer, with 14 goals and 7 assists. During 1997, his junior year, Judge totaled 14 goals and 5 assists.
In college, Judge plans to continue with the game, but not at the highest level. “I’m looking at Division III soccer,” said Judge. “I’m looking at three schools to play, but I don’t intend to make a career out of it.”
