As I read the article in last week’s Arrow about assemblies not being fair for average people, I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Assemblies are a great time to show that school isn’t just studying and taking tests. It also shows that teachers do more than just teach. But assemblies are not for students who complain about having to come to class, skip class, and go outside and smoke, causing the school to stink. They are for the students who come to school all day and then go to practice for many hours after school. These “good kids” are being recognized for working hard on their own time for something they love to do. I might be a “jock” and be recognized at an assembly, but I didn’t get there by skipping school and smoking. You want to be recognized at an assembly? Put out that cigarette, get off your rear end, and do something. It is not our fault the school wants to show off what’s good about this school. It is also not our fault that the rest of you sit around, spend taxpayers money, and want to be recognized. I think they should have one big assembly for all the kids that skip school and complain about coming here, so they will quit whining. I know I’ll give them a standing ovation.
