Impeachment preceedings about trust not sex

For some reason, we elected Bill Clinton to be our president.

Twice.

As Republicans seek to overturn this election through impeachment, Americans say they still support their president.

Yet at the same time, fewer than half of the population has a favorable impression of President Clinton. We don’t trust Clinton privately, but somehow, we expect him to hold the highest public office in the country.
When we elected Clinton we understood his lack of morality, not to mention his lack of self-control regarding his zipper. Monica Lewinsky was just one of a long string of extramarital flings that President and Governor Clinton was involved in. The American people were under some sort of illusion that Bill Clinton, the man, was different than Bill Clinton, the politician.

But a man with no personal integrity shouldn’t be trusted to hold of the most powerful office in the world.

Still, the American people say they don’t support impeachment. It’s an unpleasant process, and many Americans believe the false accusations that this impeachment is about sex.

It isn’t.

It’s about a man who lies repeatedly to the American people, and somehow convinces them he shouldn’t be punished for his actions.
Many became so overwhelmed by the incessant reporting of cigars and telephone calls, and inappropriate behavior in the Oval office, that they started to lose sight of the real issue.

In fact, this process is about a fundamental lack of trust in our president. It’s about removing a man who has disgraced the presidency, and who has been the subject of ridicule worldwide.

Clinton has not only lied to the public, he used his influence to try and conceal that lie. He has allegedly sold influence to China, and even allowed foreign nationals to stay in the White House.

Time and time again Clinton has proven himself to be untrustworthy.
And if we can’t trust the most powerful man in the world, we all have something to worry about.

The lack of confidence we have in Clinton was apparent in his recent foreign policy maneuvers. The fact that we can wonder about the motivation behind Clinton’s most recent assault on Iraq is proof of the erosion of trust.

Why is it that every time a scandal at home becomes hot, Clinton launches some sort of military operation? Why did we destroy a Sudanese pharmaceuticals plant, then claim it was some sort of blow against terrorism?

If we can’t trust the president with our military forces, he shouldn’t command them.

This impeachment isn’t about sex, or even about lying. It’s about a profound lack of faith in our nation’s leader. Censure wouldn’t restore our trust in the President. The only solution is to remove him from office.
