FHS remembers counselor
Bernie Lund, retired guidance counselor of FHS, died on Saturday, Dec. 5, of a heart attack. In a tribute to his memory, the Epworth United Methodist Church was packed to the brim with mourners at his Dec. 9 memorial service. Lund, who retired in 1993, had an impact on the school during his time here. “He was one of the most caring individuals I have ever known,” said friend and FHS counselor Bob Moore. Speakers included friends and colleagues that represented the diverse facets of his life. One thing was agreed on: Bernie Lund was a caring and empathetic man. He showed that same kindness to strangers, friends, and students. “A lot of things he did, no one even knew about,” said Moore. “That was just how he wanted it. It seems to me like a lot of people try and get credit for a philanthropic thing.” “He would encourage them (people) and everything, and no one even knew about it,” said Moore.
New Scholorship Offered
The Horsman Foundation, a Kalispell organization named for Thomas and Mildred Horsman has recently made available a full-ride scholarship to two or more FHS students, for a four-year college education, public or private. The scholarship will accept two or more finalists, granting $55,000 to $60,000 per year, for four years. This includes tuition and living expenses. Financial need is the number one consideration for this scholarship. The deadline is April 1, and applications will be available at the beginning of second semester. All applicants are required to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form. “The Horsman Foundation Scholarship has to be the greatest local scholarship oppurtunity ever available at FHS,” said Career Counselor Craig Hunnicutt. “It’s my hope that FHS students will appreciate the significance of a scholarship like this one.”
