Bands of all sounds burst out of FHS student body

Live sounds from local bands echoed through the FHS auditorium Dec. 11 with a concert sponsored by the alpine club. FHS students who have been busy with their own band got a chance to show off their musical talents as well as hard work.

“I thought it was pretty cool that it wasn’t just an amateur thing,” said sophomore Andy Davis. “It had the big speakers, better lighting and the sound was cool because you could feel the music.”

Not only was the concert filled with only enhanced technics, there were also a variety of bands from the high school that have became more prevalent this year.

“A concert is exactly what our teenage community needed,” said senior Jon Parkinson. “The last two weeks have really opened the people’s eyes to the fact that there are kids playing music around here.”

The students certainly love to play music from the fact that they keep playing. Senior Russ Mottram has played in several bands and also played in other countries.

“I just love playing the drums,” said Mottram. “I miss playing for high people in high school and my high school friends. It’s limiting to be in one band, so it’s cool that I can just go do whatever I want.”

The recent sprout of local bands can be attributed to the inspiration music provides for students.
“Music is so universal whether it be jazz, rock or classical,” said sophomore Nick Hudak. “It determines how people think and their sterotypes. I think it’s one of the highest art forms.”

Playing for an audience is exhilirating, but progress is also a satisfying factor.

“Why we keep on playing is because we enjoy progressing with one another and what better way to learn music than with other people,” said senior Tom Elston. “You can learn from one another and you push each other.”
