Hafer resigns after one year in District 5 On May 7, after a year of conflicts between Superintendent Alan Hafer and School District 5 employees, the board of trustees announced that it had reached an agreement for a partial buyout of Hafer’s three-year contract. The board voted 10-1 to approve the agreement and pay him $60,000, in addition to his first-year salary of $77,000. |

Arrow staff receives regional and national awards The Arrow staff received the “pacemaker” award from the Montana Interscholastic Editorial Association last week, naming it the best high school newspaper in the state. In addition, Arrow staffers have collected nearly 20 awards from state, regional and national competitions in recent weeks, and were named “best newspaper staff” in the Rockies Journalism Skills Competition. |

Cuckoo for the Canaries! Allen-Schmids to teach off coast of Africa When most people think of canaries they think of little birds that sit in a cage. To Kevin and Genia Allen-Schmid, along with their children Katy and Caleb, the Canaries will be home for the next year. In July, the Allen-Schmids will leave for Gran Canaira, the third-largest island in the Canary Islands, to teach at The American School of Las Palamas. While there, Kevin Allen-Schmid will teach general music and Genia will teach history, social studies, and Model United Nations. |

Committee gives FHS students chance to help choose new schedule In an attempt to see what schedule best serves the students of Flathead High School, every 9-12 grade student will be surveyed Monday to determine what students most want to see in a schedule. The 10-question survey will be distributed to students at Kalispell Junior High and FHS during second period. |

Flathead student Marceau earns ballet scholarship Flathead junior Larissa Marceau has leaped one step closer to the epitome of grace and athleticism — becoming a professional ballerina. Marceau was selected at the Montana Dance Arts Association workshop in Missoula April 24-26 to attend the Hartford Ballet School in Connecticut on a full scholarship for six weeks this summer. |
