Courtney Bousamra has traveled as far as South America, Mexico and even Spain in search of more information about the Latin culture. Now, Bousamra has chosen to complete his education, ironically, at FHS. “I love the Latin-American culture; it is so fascinating,” said Bousamra. Originally from Michigan, Bousamra wanted to learn more about the Spanish culture and language ever since he has discovered it. Bousamra turned to MSU in Bozeman to train, reflecting his experiences as a summer camp counselor and following in his parents’ footsteps to become a teacher. As this is his last semester of college, it is required that his education be completed by spending an entire semester observing other teachers and doing some teaching of his own. Bousamra has been observing and teaching with Nancy Rose in her World Literature class and Susan Himsl in her three Spanish classes. “You really have to watch the type of vocabulary that you use,” said Bousamra. “It (vocabulary) needs to be basic vocabulary, otherwise the students won’t understand.” For his student teaching choices, Bousamra requested Red Lodge, Billings or Kalispell. So far, Bousamra seems to be more than satisfied with FHS. “I love it,” said Bousamra. “The faculty is excellent and the students are well behaved and very motivated.” Bousamra feels that communication is one of the more important aspects of his teachings that he will try to incorporate into his lessons here at FHS. “I just want to improve their basic communication skills,” said Bousamra. “Reading, writing, speaking, and listening, all of the four basics.” Once he finishes his college education, Bousamra says, he has plans to move south of the border with his companions — or at least to a border states such California. His heart may be in Montana, but Bousamra feels that his body will be better off in a warmer place. Said Bousamra: “I love Montana, but it is just too cold up here for me.” |
