Charlotte’s Web

by Blake Thompson

Ever since students were in elementary school, they have loved  Charlotte’s Web. Written in 1952 by E. B. White, this book has taught children the world-over about human morals, friendship and the loss of loved ones.

Students and others were able to relive those childhood memories, by attending  the play “Charlotte’s Web” in the Black Box on October 17, 18, 20 and 21. “Carlotte’s Web” was adapted for the stage by Joseph Robinette, but English teacher April Boveng has taken the play into her own hands.

Boveng chose “Charlotte’s Web” partly because of technical challenges, but also with her step-daughter’s help.

“I couldn’t decide between “Wind in the Willows” and “Charlotte,” said Boveng. “When my step-daughter found out which plays I was choosing between, she told me that I had to do this one, because it was her favorite as a kid.”

Some of the cast found “Charlotte’s” to be quite easy to get ready for.

“It fell into place very well,”said senior Stacy Amundson. “It wasn’t that hard to prepare for.”

The preparation has payed off in not only the acting, but the techinical side of the play, as well.

“I think the web is really going to surprise people,” said senior Laura Paisley. “It’s 14 feet off of the ground … I’ll actually be hanging from it.”
