To help students learn about how safe businesses can be, outdoor lit. teacher Bruce Riley took his students on a field trip to the Plum Creek mill and the Hungry Horse Dam.
"Something that I thought that both Plum Creek and the Hungry Horse Dam taught the kids is how environmentally aware they are," said Riley. "It's excellent."
Students were shown the special precautions Plum Creek takes to make sure the mill doesn't pollute the environment.
After the trip to Plum Creek Riley took his students to the Hungry Horse Dam where they examined the dam from the bottom up, instead of the normal approach from top down.
"I think it helped to broaden their minds and show how potential abusers of the environment are helping to save it," said Riley. "I believe that everyone learned something and I even have a way to prove it. The day after the field trip we spent the whole class period talking about what we learned."
