ou guys stole the Unplugged show last month. Any plans for tonight's Rockfest?
Jason S: It's not going to have (an) acoustic feeling. The crowd will be standing up so it will be more intense. (The downside) is that you can appreciate and evaluate the music when you are sitting down. People are too busy dancing and moshing and trying to impress girls at this show.
That's what it's all about: sumo suits and velcro. We're gonna plan our own concert in a month and it will be a lot better.
Thor: Around the end of school - it's gonna be our last concert of the school year - and it's going to be awesome.
Jason S: It's gonna be kinda different from our last concert because obviously it's not acoustic. But we can use a synthesizer and it makes for a different sound.
How have you changed musically in the last year?
Thor: Our sound is more defined and more together. Our style has kind of evolved from more of a strumming acoustic sound to more synthesized sounds.
Nate: I think our music has become more progressive. There will be 4 different sounds in one song. We can play 3 or 4 songs together into one song.
Thor: We're incorporating sounds more. It's a lot more impressive and a lot neater sounding. It's a more organized sound.
If you're going to have several different parts to a song or you're going from one song to another, you can tie those in with bridges that change keys without having to look up and talk and say, "This is our next song." It makes for a more organized and more impressive sound.
It's good to be recognized for being organized and together like that because it makes for a better sound, an impressive sound, through lots of practice.
How will Hara Kiri evolve in the next year?
Nate: When you play with people for that amount of time, you really get a great feel for who you are playing with.
We also want to make a CD this summer. And the summer after our junior year, we want to do a tour, going around the Northwest playing bars and whatever we can find.
Who are your main influences?
Nate: Between Pink Floyd and White Spread Panic.
How did you like the feel of the Unplugged show?
Thor: That was right up our alley. I totally dug that. If it were possible, we could the Black Box Theatre for a show this year. We'd like to get a grand piano in there. That's the best setting for our sound.
Tonight is Utter's last show. What do you think of replacing Utter as the school's top band as sophomores?
Thor: I don't think anybody has thought about "replacing Utter." We're a totally different band. You tell me, how much attention does Utter get from this school?
Jason S: People appreciate us for our music. That's what we like: Hara Kiri Heads.
Thor: We'd rather have people that sit down and recognize our music.. The people that come just to hang out - I can see their point - but that's not what we're about.
Nate: We each make maybe $100 a year. We're in debt, and we don't care.
