Having a new coach means initiation time, so Neil Virtue's arrival as Flathead's new swimming coach in early January predictably produced a big splash. The swim team members threw him in the pool the week of his arrival.
Competing against dozens of climbers, students hit the top
Junior Ian Baker walked away with a new harness after beating out competition from dozens of climbers to take first place at the Summit Rock Climbing Competition on Jan. 18. More than 35 climbers from as far away as Great Falls and Spokane, Wash., ranging in age from seven to over 35, met at the Summit to compete for equipment and other prizes.

Exchange teacher discovers Montana isn't land of guns and drugs
Bombs in every mail box, militia men at every turn and guns for sale on every corner. Sound like Kalispell, Montana? It almost did to Australian exchange teacher Robyn Horvath, who arrived to FHS from Melbourne, Australia, on Dec. 26. Despite Horvath's long-distance impression of violence and anarchy, she has found a home in our corner of the globe.
The mark of our generation, 'Star Wars' triumphantly returns
(Editors' note: If you don't know the plot to "Star Wars." please bludgeon yourself to death - or read on.) Allow me to reminisce a bit. It was the time when marshmallow Krispies made the ideal dietary complement to watching the newest episode of Scooby Doo. When pajamas with little scuffy-pads at the bottom of your feet offered the perfect opportunity to really whip across the kitchen linoleum. And your true hero was a stud in a galaxy of his own, a man named named Han Solo. This swashbuckling space hero became the first true hero of our generation.
