When junior Janny Rauch told her friend junior Emily Miller what the ultimate present for her birthday on Jan. 7 would be, she didn't expect to actually receive it two days later. Rauch said what she really wanted was a date with junior Toby Winters.
"I was so surprised," said Rauch, after she received a card informing her of the 'present' on Jan. 9. "It was the best birthday present I have ever got."
Miller, Rauch's friend since second grade, who has a class with Winters, asked him for the date with her friend.
"I was shocked," said Winters. "It was pretty cool, though. We will have a good time."
The date, which will happen when both Winters and Rauch can take time off from their busy schedules, will be paid for by Miller. Winters didn't want her to pay, but Miller insisted that it was her present, and she wanted to pay for it.
"I'm just happy to see her smile," said Miller. "She deserves the best."
