After trailing by 16 points at halftime, the Braves basketball team fought back to even it up before losing 44-42 to Big Sky last Saturday in Missoula.

With the score tied at 42, Flathead missed on a three-point attempt and was forced to foul on defense.

Matt Rogers hit two free throws with four seconds left to clinch it for the Eagles.

"We played pretty well," said coach Joe Antonietti. "We had numerous chances to win it. We just couldn't get the big basket."

Flathead was down 29-13 at the half before mounting an impressive comeback, outscoring the Eagles 29-15.

"We changed our offense and defense," said Antonietti. "It was a combination of those things that made it better."

Senior Chad Wassink led the Braves with 12 points and junior Toby Winters scored 11.

Flathead was at home the previous night, when they fell to Missoula Sentinel 39-34. Turnovers were a problem for both teams, with 35 combined. Flathead committed 19 to Big Sky's 16.

"Turnovers turned into points for them," said senior Eric Rich, who lead the Braves with 12 points and 10 rebounds. "We only lost by five. Every turnover was big."

The Braves are currently 0-4 in league play and 2-7 overall.

"Defensively, we're playing well right now," said Antonietti. " Offensively, we have to execute better. It will come."

Flathead hosts Butte tonight at home. The game starts at 7:30. Saturday, the Braves travel to Hellgate to play the Knights at 7:30.

Said Antonietti: "I thought it was a pretty good team effort at Big Sky."
