To help counter animosity between FHS and its neighbors, sophomore Wally Drewniak helped to reverse the bad feelings. On Nov. 19, after braving the weather to drive from his home in Evergreen. Drewniak braved the cold once again in order to help Gladys Domgard, one of FHS's elderly neighbors, shovel out her car.
"They (the neighbors) don't like any of the kids out there because they smoke," said Drewniak. "I figured maybe they would like us if we helped them out."
"I looked out there and she could hardly shovel it," said Drewniak. "She was really old, she was 79."
Drewniak's teacher, Teri Johnson, told him that his deed would be school sponsored, so he promptly left the building to help the neighbor.
"I was surprised because it was during school hours," said Domgard. "I thought it was considerate of him to come over on such a nasty day."
Another of Drewniak's teachers, Kelly Morrow, said she thought it was "a very wonderful thing that he has done."
Said Domgard: "I felt I had a guardian angel watching over me that day."
