Last
week, 15 FHS students took a six-day trip to Washington, D.C. They visited
different places while having fun and learning how our government works.
In the seminars they attended, the students learned about different issues,
such as international relations, media and the judicial system.
"I learned a lot more about compromise," said
junior Henry McNeil. "And situations the Senate and the United Nations
as well as the House of Purchases hav to deal with."
Not only did the students from FHS attend, but also
students from states such as Alaska, California, Iowa.
"The Senate and the House were out of session,"
said McNeil, "so we got to go in there and see the floor."
Lessons were also learned about the history of our government.
"It was really cool to go to Williamsburg, Virginia,"
said sophomore Kala French. "We saw how our government evolved from
what the British had."
Some of the students learned more than just government
lessons, they learned about life.
"The most important thing that I learned was to
accept people by their opinions, by what they believe," said junior
Stacia Gardner, "because everyone has freedom of speech."
Everybody had one free day when they could go to various
places such as the White House and the Smithsonian Institute, and on the
last day, many attended a dance. "My highlight of the trip,"
said French, "was when Jim (Bennett) got attacked by two girls on
the dance floor."
