Ever wonder how that guy
on the basketball team drops so many 3-pointers? Or how that girl on the
volleyball team alwasy gets so many seemingly impossible digs? Here at
the Arrow, we wondered that ourselves.
Our
Top 10 Superstitions
Troy Wassink, junior (basketball)
"Before each game, I take a shower, then I eat a banana and a power
bar."
Jeff Meredith, junior (basketball and football)
"I used to wear the same underwear for every game, but then they
got too old, and they got a hole in them, and I had to throw them away.
And I was gonna not shave my goatee 'til we lost a game, but then we lost,
and I decided I didn't want to shave it. And I always listen to my German
punk song 'Wizzo.' It gets me pumped. And for football, we'd always go
to chapel before a game."
Justin Smith, junior (basketball)
"I eat a powerbar and drink a Sobe before every game. And I take
a shower. I listen to 'Eye of the Tiger' (which is the) theme song for
Rocky III. It gets me pumped up and focused. I put on my right sock, then
left sock, (then another) right sock (and another) left sock, then right
shoe, then left shoe. And on every game day, I eat at the Alley Connection
for lunch with my dad."
Stephanie Lanfear, senior (volleyball)
"For volleyball (we have) a pre-game dinner before every game, usually
at a player or coaches' house. And (we always wear) lots of glitter and
ribbons. We knock on wood a lot too. And we have a CD that Lauren Casey
made that has the song 'Welcome to the Jungle."
Lauren Casey, senior (volleyball)
"Before every game, we write our goals on the board. Our coach always
sits on the bench with all of the players on one side, and one player
on the other side. (And we have) a black chair (that is put out on the
floor) that is bad luck."
Jon Stebbins, senior (soccer)
"We do a prayer before every game. The whole team gets together on
a knee and prays. With the three other defenders and the goalie, I'd do
this handshake to wish them good-luck."
Krista Willits, sophomore (soccer)
"I have a lucky #19 shirt that my brother gave to me that I wear
underneath my jersey, because he wore a #19 shirt under his jersey when
he played soccer."
Hillary Buettner, senior (cross-country)
"We (the girls) listen to the song 'No One's Gonna Break my Stride'
(on the days of meets). (I also have) lucky shoelaces that I've had since
I was a freshman. They have rainbows and clouds on them."
