Junior
Valissa Sneck winds up for a serve during practice.
After a state title in basketball,
three girls from the basketball team are hoping to keep up the momentum
through the volleyball season.
"We have a good shot at taking state," said senior Stephanie
Lanfear. "We have to get to state and just take it one step at a
time."
The girls are headed in the right direction with wins
over the three Missoula schools. Against Sentinal, 15-7, 15-3, and a win
over Hellgate, 15-1, 15-5, and 15-4, 15-8, 15-7 over Big Sky.
"We played together really well as a team ,"
said junior Valissa Sneck.
From the eight varsity players this year, seven have
varsity experience.
"Our experience will definitely help us and those
on the team with less experience will be able to step up," said coach
Maureen Boyle.
"It's harder (being on varsity)," said junior
Edralyn Harmon. "I'm the only newcomer and it's a big responsibility
replacing some of last year's team."
Lanfear had all-state honors last year and teammates
Addy Hines, Sarah Lenoch, and Marny Saunier were elected to all-conference.
They will be key players this year for the Bravettes.
Though the girls are confident about winning state,
they won't take any team lightly.
"Each game will be a different level of competition
that we'll have to react to," said Boyle. "With as much experience
as we have, we'll be facing more inexperienced teams. We'll just have
to react to each one differently."
With three of the girls coming from the state-winning
basketball team, aspirations are high to win volleyball as well.
"They're (the sports) totally different,"
said Lenoch. "I think it will give us extra confidence, though."
Aside from finishing the season with a state title,
the girls feel that strong team chemistry is very important.
"Everyone is getting along," said Harmon.
"If we don't the team won't do as well."
"There are only eight on varsity this year and
we're pretty tight," said Lenoch. "We all played together last
year and work well together."
