Sophomore
Kathleen McGarvey and senior Josh Berg practice their figure skating
routine
It's 10 p.m. on a Friday
night in Kalispell. A lot of students are tired of making it a Blockbuster
night. After all, it can be hard to keep yourself entertained in such
a small town. But a few resourceful students have found new, creative
ways to amuse themselves.
Sophomore Odie Ericson likes to take foreigners to Mooses's
and get them to blow the horn.
"I haven't had fun in about five years," says
sophomore Robbie Lawlor. "When in doubt, I just play video games."
Sophomore Kathleen McGarvey likes to do interpretive
ice dancing.
"Josh Berg and I are figure skaters. He calls me
Katelina and I call him Jos'lin, because those are figure skater names.
We glide gracefully across the ice together as one," she says. "The
only thing is that he says I need to stop eating so he can pick me up."
Other students go out drinking for fun just not
alcohol.
"I drink lattes just for fun, actually," says
junior Sara Mazur. "Just for kicks."
"I like to shoot pool at Scotty's," says sophomore
Scotty Somerfield. "There's a lot of nice gals my age I meet there.
After that I go snowboarding and play myself a little bit of hacky sack."
Sophomore Micah Nelson is stoked that he never has to
tie his shoes again.
"I hate to tie shoes because it detracts from my
fun time," says Nelson. "So I bought these shoes that don't
need to be tied. That way I have more time to ski and sled and cut Mike
Murray's hair."
Junior Sean Cowan likes to go sledding:
"I like to take my pink sled, and go down to the
gully, and hit the jump, and fly through the air, and crash as hard as
I can, because that's the fun part."
Senior Mark Ruby is very creative. He likes going on
beta-team missions.
"I dress up in black and climb up buildings and
I try not to get caught," says Ruby.
Senior David Palchak has dozens of fun ideas.
"I play hockey and I really like to ice skate.
I also like to go sledding. I like to go dancing," he says. "My
girlfriend and I always like to go to the school dances that seem like
they're not going to flop. I also enjoy baking - like cookies and stuff
- because they taste really good," said Palchak.
"When I get bored I like to dress up like a punk
rocker and pretend I know how to play the guitar," says senior Kaitlyn
Buffington. "I wear ripped up jeans. We have a chick punk band called
Norman's Not Funny."
