Mrs. Hoffman's First Grade 97-98Pigs Galore! |
| We do a family project each quarter. After the children read "The Three Little Pigs" in our classroom we discuss different building materials and designs that could be used to build a pig house. Each child takes his or her ideas home and communicates them to their families.Everyone in the family is welcome to help with this project. It is a good experience in communication and cooperation for the entire family. When completed the children bring back the pig houses, they write a story about making the pig house. Then they read the story to their classmates and we put the story and a photo of the pig houses in a book. A new traveling book is created which the children take home and read to their families. Marcus My grandma helped me make my pig house. We made it out of popsicle sticks. My mom helped me and my brother and my sister, Cassie and me. It has a gate, and the wolf is standing near the gate. I made tin foil on the roof. I got some clay and made clay pigs and a dish to eat out of. I had fun making it. I built it until dark. By Marcus |
Joe MMy mom and dad helped me make my house. I made my house out of wood. Then I put straw on it. Then I made the second one out of wood. I glued it and then I waited a while for it to dry. I painted them. I painted it red and then drew black lines on it so it would look like concrete bricks. By Joe M. |
DerekMy Grandma made my pig house with me. I made it out of popsicle sticks that we stuck together with marshmallows and hot glue. I burned myself! It looks like a house of bricks. KyMy step dad made my house, and I drew on it. It is made out of paper and cardboard. It is a shoe box. The roof is made out of spaghetti sticks. Some broken spaghetti sticks are inside so that it sounds like a pig walking all over the place. I wish I would have been able to do more on the house instead of my stepdad. By Ky |
IanMy mom and my dad helped me make my pig house. We used sticks and paper.I have some animals around my house. Some horses and cows and a woodpile are by my house. I made a wolf out of clay. I have trees, a pond and I drew a path. I made a fireplace, but on the way to school it fell off. I made a rug in front of the house to make sure that nobody pushes it back. AugustaMy dad and my brother helped me build the pig house. First we went to Wal-Mart and got a placemat and took it home. And then my dad got a big piece of cardboard out of the dumpster. Then he took it inside. Then he traced the placemat with a pen around the cardboard and then he cut it out. Then we went to Super One and got sugar cubes and red dye. Then we took them home and got the sugar cubes open. Then my brother got the sugar cubes out, one by one. My dad got a dropper and then he showed me how to do it. I got the dye in the tube and dropped the dye in the middle of the sugar cube. My dad had some frosting from the cake and then he got a butter knife. Then after I got some sugar cubes dyed with dye, my brother got the sugar cubes up and handed them to my dad. My dad put some frosting on the placemat and then he put the sugar cubes on the placemat. We covered the sugar cubes with frosting. Then we put the popsicle sticks on the sugar cubes. Then we had some sugar cubes leftover and made a chimney. Then my dad got a little piece of paper and wrote "Mr. T Pig." Then I took it to school. I had fun doing it. By Augusta |

Joe AMy mom , my dad and my brother and sister helped me build my pig house. The house they helped me build was made out of legos. There is a cook stove in it. There is also a sink. I put a porch on it. It is red and it has two bushes on the porch. It took me a half a hour to make the pig house. It was a lot of fun. By Joe A. |
JohnMy dad helped me build my pig house. It took me from the first day I heard about to the last day because it kept on falling apart. The lego house is the brick house. No one thought of my idea. I have a wall in the pig house that doesn't have any legos for you to see inside. And it has a computer and a chair and a small fireplace and a small chimney. You can see part of the chimney inside. It was really hard to make but I made a pig and the pig has a silly head. It has a human head and it has two pairs of funny pants on him. By John |
