I was born and raised in Michigan. My father was a licensed breeder for state licensed
animals, so I have been surrounded by animals all my life. As I grew up, my Dad had an average of 13 to 16 Coonhounds at all times. My Mother had 3 Pomeranians. My life was surrounded with Deer, a monkey, pheasants, peafowls, raccoons, skunks, foxes, geese, ducks, chickens, bantams, guinea hens, rabbits, cats, goats, parakeets, owls, hawks, canaries, guinea pigs, and dogs. As I grew up, I knew I also wanted a horse. When I got married, I told my future husband, "When you marry me you marry a horse!" I showed, trained and bred horses for 20 years, a hobby that I shared with my 2 daughters during their childhood. I still have 2 show horses that are 28 & 26 years old and are living out their lives on acres of lush pasture.
Classy Kennel became a reality in 1985. Starting with Cocker Spaniels, I bred a few
litters and tried the show ring. Just couldn't quite get the hang of the show Cockers, so from there I progressed to a Boston Terrier and my first English Pointer. I became interested in showing dogs around 1985. I showed the Pointer in AKC, UKC and Canada for championships in conformation as well as obedience titles. One day I saw a picture of a little red foxy looking dog, sitting in a tree and this dog looked like he owned the world! I was fascinated and in love at that very moment! I found out all I could about this breed. I found out that it was a very rare Shiba Inu and I knew I had to have one. I sent 9 letters out to different breeders and most responded. I got my first Shiba, a black and tan from Shibas Nest Kennel in New York. I purchased several Shibas over the next few years bringing in the lines I liked the best. In 1996 I built a new 24'x32' kennel building with outside runs. I totally fenced in a 100' square area with 6' tall chain link fence. This has become my playground for my dogs. They get to run around and play in this fenced in area daily. Within the next few years, I will be fencing in an additional two acres and it will be a wild sanctuary for my dogs. It will be filled with tables and toys, and things for them to run on, jump on, leap through, dig into, whatever their little hearts desire. Once this is done, I will be able to sit out there for hours and watch them. Ten years later, I have 18 Shiba with numerous champions. I also bred and showed the first twelve UKC Grand Champion Shiba and the first and only UKC Best in Show. Most of my Shibas are now AKC & UKC Champions.
In 1996 I started with my first Kai Kens. This is the most intelligent, extremely devoted,
and very beautiful breed of dog. Since 1997 the Kai have achieved 47 UKC Champions and 28 Grand Champions. I bred, owned and showed 33 of the Kai to their championship and 20 of the Grand Champions. This breed has captured my heart and soul and is displayed in my website. Classy Kennel is very proud to own 6 rare red/brindle and has bred the first all red/brindle litter in the U.S. as well as the rarest red/brindle ever born in the U.S. Be sure and check them out! The Kai are so devoted that they will always be by your side and love you till their death and yet they are primitive and will react unsocial to something or someone strange. THEY ARE NOT GOLDEN RETREIVERS!
Thanks to my grand daughter, Mandy, I have a very large kennel of Shiba and Kai and she
helps me constantly with training, showing, grooming, and traveling with me continually. My love and kisses go to Mandy. Thank you, sweetheart! I could not have done this without her constant help.
I have procured all the bloodlines of the original imports in the Kai now and have a very
extensive breeding program. So between the Shiba and the Kai, my life has totally went to the dogs. What a way to go!!!! I AM HAPPY!!!! I AM BLESSED!!! I AM LOVED!!! |
